Synthetic fragrances may be the most common type of chemical in your home. We unknowingly could be harming our family’s health with our quest for a home that smells warm, inviting, and clean smelling.
Air fresheners, plug-in type deodorizers, and scented candles can emit hundreds of harmful chemicals known to be carcinogens, respiratory and endocrine disrupters, and reproductive toxicants, even at low levels.
In 2014, Scientific American reported that in a study in the journal, Environmental Health Perspectives, shows a strong link between exposure to phthalates (chemicals that are often found in air fresheners and often plastics) during pregnancy and the child’s future risk of asthma.
In an article in the Huffington Post entitled, “The Big Problem With Scented Candles,” Dana Oliver writes that, “Scented candles are one of the easiest and most effective ways to mask unpleasant odors in your home. They’re a go-to when creating a relaxing ambiance to unwind after a long work day or while taking a warm bubble bath.
But one of the main problems with scented candles is the scent itself. According to Anne Steinemann, an environmental pollutants expert who is a professor of civil engineering and the chair of sustainable cities at the University of Melbourne, certain candles may emit numerous types of potentially hazardous chemicals, such as benzene and toluene. They can cause damage to the brain, lung and central nervous system, as well as cause developmental difficulties.”
Diffusing Young Living Essential Oils using an Ultrasonic diffuser combines the advantages of a humidifier, air purifier, atomizer, and aromatherapy diffuser into one by breaking a mixture of essential oils and water into millions of micro-particles and dispersing them into the air.
Diffusing essential oils provides a safe and effective method for purifying and scenting the air in your home as a fantastic alternative to harmful air fresheners, candles, and plug-ins.
