Guys, what do lawn-work, toenails, beards, and stress have in common? Yes, you guessed it, there’s an oil for that! In part 3 of our Man Up! Oils for Dudes series, we want to explore some oils and blends that can indeed help with each of these things and you might end up finding a favorite among them!
Lawn Guy’s Helper
It is ironic that we are discussing lawn-work today as I had to mow my yard today. Now I live in Texas and it is August in Texas which only means one thing. Its HOT! Not just any hot, but that wake-up-at-8-in-the-morning-and-its-already-85-degrees humid type of hot. What’s a guy to do?
Well dudes, let me introduce you to your new best friend when you do lawn-work or anything outside when it is hot – Peppermint Essential Oil. Yes, that wonderful breath freshening, candy flavoring oil is more versatile than you might have known!
Just place a few drops in your hand and rub onto the back of your neck and you will experience the cool and invigorating sensation that sends the hot sun packing.
Also, put a few drops into your hands, rub them together, cup over your nose and inhale deeply several times. The aroma itself will send energizing molecules via the limbic system directly to the brain and enhance concentration and alertness.
Sound far fetched? Well, first try it and see, but second an article by Inc.com entitled, “Can You Smell Your Way to a Better Brain? Science Says Yes.” back in March 2016, cited a study in 1990 showed that smelling peppermint essential oil enhanced alertness, focus, and concentration. That’s pretty cool in my book.
Well guys I hate to state the obvious, but we have toenails too and frankly, some of you have some funky stuff going on with them if you know what I mean! If you are like me though, you won’t catch me dead or alive in a salon having someone work on my feet! If that’s you, don’t worry, just keep reading as I have good news!
Enter Tea Tree and Oregano Essential Oils and say goodbye to nasty looking feet! Tea Tree and Oregano essential oils have constituents supporting the skin and will keep your feet in tip top shape without having to turn in your man-card and go to a salon. Just take a few drops of each and apply to the edge of your toenails daily. You can even combine into a bottle with a roller top with a carrier oil to make application even more convenient.
“Our character tells the world you are a real man. Your beard is merely the exclamation point!” ~Unknown
Well we know that not all dudes have a beard or can even grow one so that quote above is meant with a bit of humor. But for those that can grow one, beards are definitely a mark of uniqueness and distinction.
Unfortunately, your beard can get to feeling a bit scraggly, itchy, or straw-like. A regular application of beard oil will help improve the overall look, feel, and texture of your beard as well as to help reduce split ends.
Yes, you can buy beard oil in stores, but why not save time and money by making your own with the best of oils, created by nature. The graphic here is one recipe example and has other essential oils that could also be used.
Time to Relax
If there is one thing that guys like to do, it is nothing at all! Relaxing after a hard day’s work and not having to do anything is of great enjoyment to us. Unwinding from the stresses of the job and refocusing our minds on our spouse and family is extremely important.
One of my favorite essential oil blends to do this is Stress Away. I think the name says it all, but it takes relaxation to a whole new level. Utilizing great scents and constituents in blending Lime, Cedarwood, and Vanilla, it has often been called “Vacation in a Bottle.”
I personally use this essential oil blend daily, putting it on my wrists/forearms and the back of my neck. I also have a diffuser on my desk at work and Stress Away is used daily so that I can help support my body’s natural responses to stressful situations and help balance out my day. I have promised myself to never run out of this essential oil blend!
